Description

for this contest
Contest: Design a Species! $100 in prizesEdit 1: I reached 10 entries already, wow you guys are fast! This means that the second prize on both categories has definitely been reached <3 Keep those entries coming! :D
I also added a F.A.Q. because a lot of questions were asked in the comments, I placed it in the bottom of the journal!
It's already been a year since my last contest (Create a Mount), and I'm actually really excited about this new contest, all in the theme of designing new creatures/species for my world, TerrApocalypse! I learned quite a lot from the previous contest, especially in do's and don'ts, and will apply everything I learned in this new contest. For example, I will provide you guys with more information than I gave you for the Mount Contest, because I noticed people simply didn't understand or know my world, and therefore found it difficult to design something that would fit with my general idea. So, let's get this started! Are you ready??
GENERAL IDEA AND INFORMATION
The idea is to

SO the chinde is a woodland creature and it is of the classification Aves. It's warm blooded, lays eggs, and has soft, downy feathers. They feed on most types of fungus and as a result are very good at keeping plants free from invasive mould and, as a result, healthy. They use their broad front teeth to scrape mould and lichen from trees and flat surfaces, and they use their talons to scratch up fungus from the ground, like fairy rings. They have very few natural predators when mature, but many different species will eat their eggs.

They strut silently through the underbrush (like wild turkeys) and move in large groups. When threatened, they puff out their feathers and emit a low, menacing clucking/barking sound.

There are several kinds of domestic breeds of them, bred into wild colours and patterns that are pleasing to humans. They were domesticated by farmers to help keep crops healthy in wet weather, when they might lose produce to mould. Farmers also prize them because the eggs are large and can be sold for a profit and the feathers, being so soft and fine, make excellent stuffing for pillows, duvets, chairs, coats, etc. The meat can be eaten, but because most of its diet consists of fungus and rotting vegetation it doesn't taste particularly super. They can be fed on produce that is just starting to go bad in order to make the meat taste better, but they aren't happy about it.

They are also sometimes kept as pets, but they are not easy to train and mostly do whatever they want.

tl;dr- it's a like a turkey goat.

Hahaha, I love this idea, a turkey-goat xD Great idea that they feast on fungus and rotting veg, seems like the perfect way to keep the forest super healthy indeed! Thanks a lot for your entry Horace :D
